Diary - Melbourne 2006

Day 11 (Monday, October 9th, 2006)

Dear Diary ...

The motto for the next couple of days - Kirchhain on the move in Victoria, different outings for McKinnon/Viewbank and the 'Oxley Mob' (sorry, dear hosts = what we really mean to say is: students with Oxley, Donvale, Lilydale and Luther College, but we couldn't think of a better acronym!) ...

Click to enlarge image To begin with, here is a bit of 'cultural studies' for you. We said Kirchhain on Monday was like in 'Victoria on the Move' - but we are being advised by Roslyn, our Melbourne Outer Eastern German Network Leader, that this was the motto of the then conservative Victorian government under Jeff Kennett; now - under Labour, it of course all changed and it's now 'Victoria - the place to be!'We couldn't agree more!Sabine and her McKinnon/Viewbank Mob went off to the Great Ocean Road for three days - so we won't hear from them for a while, whereas the Oxley Mob really did have a ball at Brighton Beach - there was a lot of sunshine again, cold water to cool the feet and plenty of shopping in Church Street - with theoretically a lot of time, if only some of us had moved at normal speed  (alas - Rentner-Schritt). Look, we are working at it.There have been requests to eventually go to St. Kilda Beach (just north of Brighton, but - s.a. Rentner-Schritt - we never quite made it there!), so the programme might yet change again. But how do the Aussies (OZZIES according to a post-colonial voice) say - if you never never go, you'll never never know.See you tomorrow...And by the way - there will be pictures soon, only we have to find a way to transmit them to our dear Webmaster, Ms Muenchow, who watches us beningly and makes sure the pages don't scramble up all the time - thank you Marion! Even in Advanced Australia Fair (sorry, a pun on the national anthem but there is not DSL everywhere) it is not always easy to digitally transmit pictures. But, wait for it - you'll be surprised, and it is worth the wait.
